DJ Travis Fleetwood - Motivated Mix Vol. 5

This mix was recorded at Zinc Night Club in Christchurch, New Zealand circa 2003, on 2x Technics SL1210 turntables and the Pioneer-DJM600 mixer. This is an unedited recording and NO digital effects were used in the live mix! ALL effects are from spinning duplicate records (aka dj doubles) and a little crossfader and timing magic.

I started spinning house and techno back in 1997; before digital djing was a thing. I learned to beatmatch by ear on Gemeni belt-driven turntables and a Realistic mixer from 1972. I still remember how difficult it was to push the crossfader back and forth, and I lost friends and even a couple of apartments during the years that it took my craft to become listenable. Eventually, I started making mixtapes, on cassette tapes, and graduated to the Technics 1200 turntables and my Vestax PMC-15MKII.

After years of playing in basement house parties, clubs, and warehouse raves, the Motivated Mix Series was conceptualized as a live demo mix series for the purposes of touring globally. It evolved into a mix series of live recordings from the road. Unfortunately, 23 years later, only two of the mixes still exist; Motivated Mixes Vol 3 and Vol 5. These serve as a record of personal history, a testament to the many wonderful people and friends I met during my youthful travels, and I'm proud to be able to share them with you now.

I no longer spin in a professional capacity. I've seen too much of the dark side of the music industry, and I'm too old to tour anymore, even if I wanted to do so. Instead, I prefer to stay close to home, family, and friends while I work professionally as an Network Engineer & Systems Architect. Most of my free time is taken up by doing podcasts with fellow cryptocurrency and blockchain advocates, enjoying nature, and occasionally ferreting out bot networks on Twitter. I do still spin for the joy of it, and if there's an interest, I may post more recent mixes when I can get around to it. Until then, I hope you enjoy listening to these mixes as much as I enjoyed playing and recording them all those years ago.
